Tomas Jasevicius: Camp is not one way traffic...

Marta Seweryn: What are your feelings after being for the first time as an instructor at the camp for referees?

Tomas Jasevicius: It was great experience for me and I really like it! If at least one referee noted my advices which can help him to improve- so it was worth to come! Anyway... I hope that there were much more referees, than only one:)

You are young, potential, Euroleague referee how do you feel between so famous people like Costas, Lubo and Romas?

T.J. It’s very interesting to be near such famous referees during the camps. They have big experience and they give really good things for young referees. I am trying to do not miss the things they saying, because it helps a lot to officiate better!

Do you also learn something here?

T.J. When you are in such camps the best point is, that it’s not ''one way traffic". Referees learn from instructors and instructors learn from referees by sharing experience, which they get from each game.

What would be your advice for the campers and all referees that want to improve their skills?

T.J. My advice would be: try to take everything best from each referee/instructor and to adapt it in your own way to your personality, which helps you to be the better referee.

How was your way to achieve international level and Euroleague level of officiating?

T.J. My way was not very different from the others:). I started at 15 years old and went step by step to my targets. Though I became FIBA referee at 24 years old, I still have many targets in the officiating, so I keep working.... (unfortunately I can not tell my targets, till I reach it :)).

How do you combine work and officiating?

T.J. I work in Lithuanian basketball federation in capacity of the director of youth national basketball teams. There’s no big problem for me to combine work and my trips for the games. However, I stay quite late in my office after I come back from the games to do work which I have to do.

Who is your referee idol? Who in your opinion is the best referee to copy from?

T.J. My referee idol is Romualdas Brazauskas. I am very fortunate that he is my teacher in the refereeing. I really took many things from him, and I am trying to make these things in my own way. It’s impossible to copy somebody, because we all are different- and its really great!

What are your aims, goals as a referee?

T.J. I traveled almost all across the world and I met many beautiful people, who became my friends. I think it’s the best goal of being basketball referee.

Hope to see you more times at the camp :)

T.J. I hope Kuba will invite me and we will meet at the camp!:) But I have no problem if we meet not only at the camp :)
